NEWTON KING'S EXHIBIT.
An attractive display of seeds and other things of interest to farmers is made by Mr Newton King. The first thing that strikes the eye is the exhibit of Kapai Sterling seeds ("Sterling" is Mr King's trade mark), grown in different kinds of grass, turnips, swede, rape, and kale seeds. These show the great germinating qualities of Hurst's seeds of which Mr King makes a specialty. On one side are shown all kinds of farm seeds in nicely printed bags, and on the other an unlimited number of manures are exhibited. As a great deal of manure is used in Taranaki, Mr King spares no expense in procuring the best brands, and he finds it pays far better to stock high grade manures and seeds than the cheaper sorts. For the dairy farmer we find milk cans, dairy scrubs, strainers, vaseline in large tins, and sundry other articles. For the poultry fanciers there is chicken groats, fowl grit, chicken grit, bone meal, etc., and for the pig breeder there is sucrosine, rice meal, pig meal (made on the premises), molasses fodder and Champion pollard. There are also on view several varieties of potatoes planted the same day as the seeds, under similar conditions to try and prove which variety is best suited for Taranaki soil. This exhibit is very instructive, and well worthy of inspection. Altogether the exhibit is a very creditable one aud goes to prove that in catering for the farming community Mr King likes to verify his statements that the best article is always the cheapest in the long run.
