OPENING DAY.
The thirty-fourth Metropolitan Annual Show under the auspices if the Taranaki Agrjsultural Society was opened on the Racecourse to-day in favourable weather. The prospects yesterday was not too encouraging and there were many anxious faces. In fact the one subject of conversation was the Show and the meteorological conditions. Up to last night the sky remained overcast and there was an occasional spot or two of rain, but eventually the wind changed and things became more hopeful. The ominous clouds quickly disappeared and there was a clear starry sky. This morning broke fine. Since last show various improvements have been made to tlie grounds, and the pens have been thoroughly overhauled. A most desirable improvement has been the laying of the water main to the cattle pens. This will supply a long felt want as in previons years -all the water has had to be carted in to the grounds and the supply as a consequence has not always been so ready and plentiful as exhibitors could have wished. With the water mains right alongside there will be no cause for complaint in the future.
