WRECK OF THE HAWEA.
v- '• • - • • ■ - Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, Nov. 2. The Hawea's position remains unaltered. Salvage operations are being carried on with a fair amount of success. Mr Daniels, of the Union Company, has arrived to-day to decide what shall be done with the vessel.
The Premier of New South Wales stated the other day that since November, 1901, 2749 samples of liquor have been tested by the Government Analyst, secured by inspectors from such bottles or vessels as they selected, and none of the samples was found to contain anything deleterious or injurious to health, with the exception of some wine taken years ago, and a few samples of brandy not considered genuine. In addition, nearly 600 samples of liquor have been obtained by the police from hotels in the country since the beginning of last year, many of them from towns in the far west, but no injurious ingredient could be traced in any of them.
