The large German four-masted barqu* Nal left Antwerp last week with -a cargo of superphosphates for Auckland. The Nal, which was formerly a British ship known as the Lord Ripon, is probabl~ the largest sailing snip that has ever loaded for a New Zealand port. Her gross registered tonnage is 2781 tons.

Loading by the Federal-Houlder-Shire steamer Rippingham Grange will be commenced shortly. The vessel will leave Wellington /finally about November 25 for West of England ports. Some weeks ago the Union Company's steamer Taieri was purchased by the Maoriland Shipping Company, who are the owners of the Torgauten and the Ennerdale. The new otyners of the Taieri have decided to call their re-cently-acquired vessel the "Lauderdale/" and it is rumoured that they also intend re-naming the Torgauten) with a word ending in "dale," so as to have their fleet similarly named. — Dominion.
