THE MASS MEETING.
(To the Editor.) Sir, — I was very much surprised to read in your issue of last evening « scurrilous attempt on the part of an anonymous, writer, "Anti- Alcohol," to cowardly and unfairly accuse the liquor trade of importing a speaker for the purpose of scandalising a no-license advocate on Sunday afternoon in th.c Recreation Grounds.. This, sir. is a base and most unwarrantable falsehood and suggests to me that it has either been done for the purpose of creating a large audience at the duly advertised and undefined "mass meeting to be held in the Recreation Grounds on Sunday, October 25," under the auspices of the no-license party ; or "A^ii-Alco-hol" has been wilfully misinformed. As, sir, you do not hold yourself responsible for opinions expressed by your correspondents, still in, fairness to those who are unjustly accused I consider anonymous correspondence of that nature should bear the hall mark or reasonable authenticity. — I am, etc., - - E. WHITTLE* President Taranaki Licensed Victuallers' Association. October 24, 1908. - _v 1
