A FRENCH AGREEMENT

An agreement for tAventy-five years has been concluded between the French Government and the Messageries Maritimes Company regarding the payment of subsidies, including that to the Australian line. By this the State saves £40.000 a year. In return the State guarantees the company's new loan issue, which is designed to renew the fleet. The State reserves the right to participate in the profits of the subsidised services.
