DUNEDIN, Oct. 22.
Strong pressure has been brought to induce Air J. London to resume his campaign for Bruce. His health has improved considerably during the last few days, and he leaves for Hanmer tomorrow. He has not yet decided what action he will take.
Mr Barr, Socialist candidate for Chalmers, addressed tlie electors' at Anderson's Bay to-night. The meeting accorded the candidate its best wishes in the campaign he has-undertaken. Mr E. G. Allen, candidate for Chalmers, addressed a meeting -at Port Chalmers to-night. He said he would still support the Government. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks and continued confidence.
STIRLING, Oct. 22. Speaking at Stirling to-night, Mr James Allen replied at considerable length to Sir Joseph Ward's speech at Palmerston North. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and continued confidence.
CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 22. To-night Mr Witty, member for Riccarton, was tendered a social by the residents of Papanui (which has' been severed from his electorate). The Hon. J. A. Millar spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Witty's political career, and expressed the hope that the people of Canterbury would send him back for many years to grace the House of Representatives. Complimentary speeches were also made by Messrs Davey and Buddo, M.P.'s. Mr Witty and Mrs Witty were presented with a silver tea and coffee service and a tray bearing a suitable inscription.
TIMARU. Oct. 22
Mr W. D. Campbell, editor of the Timaru Herald, has, in response to a request from many electors, decided to contest the Timaru seat at the general election as an Opposition candidate. WANGANUI, Oct. 22. The local election campaign opened to-night. Mr G. Hutchinson. who is opposing the Government, addressed a large meeting in the Opera House. He jreceiyed a good hearing. HOKITIKA, Oct. 22. Mr T. E. Y. Seddon. present member for Westland, opened his election campaign this evening. Despite boisterous weather , there was a very large attendance. A motion of thanks and. confidence was carried. The mover of the motion read telegrams from the Premier unreservedly accepting Mr Seddon as Government candidate for Westland., The meeting at times was lively, but good-nature,d.
