(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Freezing Works expect to resume operations about November 10. At a meeting of the Caledonian Society held on Wednesday evening tne secretary submitted a statement showing, a loss of £18 on the* recent sports. The committee, members decided to contribute £1 each towards payirig off the deficiency. v Jt is proposed to hold an athletic "meeting on December 17. There will be ninety-five polling booths in the Tanmaranui electorate on the occasion of the general election. The committee of the Waitara Lawn Tennis Club will have the courts in Splendid order for the opening tlay,Thursday, October 29.
MAGISTRATE'S COURT. The monthly sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held before Mr H. S Fitzherbert, S.M., on Wednesday. P..G. Hammond, for driving a horse -furiously in McLean Street, was fined XOs and costs 7s. The same defendant for ill-treafing a horse by unreasonably beating it with a whip, was fined 40s' and costs 19s. In the case Otway and So. v. M. W. Poison, claim £14 13s 7d, Mr Townsend appeared for plaintiff. Judgment was given for the amrtunt with costs 32s 6cT. An order for immediate execution was granted as defendant was leaving the district. Judgment for plaintiff in default of defendant was given in the following cases:— ~L. Fraser v. W. Snouhcatt,. £9 16s 7d (costs £3 0s 6d); Jillet v. Retia Parehia, £2 18s 6d (costs 38s); H. Dooly v. F. Furze, £3 8s (costs 15s) ; H. Dooly v. J. Wilson, 16s (costs 6s) ; A. Fairlev v. J. Moran £18 11s (costs 38s 6d): W. P. Snell v. J. J. Gilbert £6 18s (costs 8s); W. P. Snell v. Moriri £2 19s 6d (costs 20s 6d).
The judgment summons case, Amillia Sullivan v. F. Webster was dealt with. Debtor was ordered to pay the full amount forthwith, in default to undergo fourteen days' imprisonment. The order was suspended on condition that debtor should pay £1 per month. ' The Magistrate gave his decision in the two cases wherein G. H. Stubbs, coal merchant, was charged, on the information of the Inspector of Fa,ctories. with keeping his premises open on Thursday August 6. Both cases were dismissed.
