WHANCAMOMONA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) October 21. — Mr .Now ion King's (at tie sale is put oft until later in the. spring. Farmers thinking that, having plenty ot grass, they will got Imtter prices in a week or two than at present. Everyone is extremely busy hero and no labour is to be got. The Whanga County Council i.-. 1 hear, to consiuor tenders for papa burn-: ing on the Mangaere Road at the monthly meeting on tho 28th inst. It is sincerely hoped this contract may l-< let at a satislactory price as it moanr> a big help to the choose lnctory. j
Mr Nert ton King and probably Mr Connelt will address tho raten»\ci'- n the Whanga Jlall on the 29th inst. on the harbour loan. Very lew ot tho back country settlers can realise the immense- advantages that will be g.uned by making a drep-.->oa harbour :<t Moturoa. Under the new proposals I they will bt x practically iro<» trom any future harbour rate and hare all the advantages of a good harbour connected by rail, as this district will assuredly be in two years' time. Tho completion of iho harbour to handle deep-sea ships will have a tar-reaclung and beneficent effect on the whole of Taranaki, and tho towns that willbenefit most will be Klthani. Stratford,! Inglewood and New Plymouth. The' whole of the trade from Mangaroa will undoubtedly come this way as tho rtis-j tanco from the Ohura to Moturoa is| by rail under 100 miles as against 200, miles from tho same place to Auck-, land. This in- itself will be. a very' largo saving in freight and time, be'-i sides being on a far better grade. It 1 will be possible for butter and cheese or fat stock on the trucks at Mangaroa at 6 o'clock in the. morning to arrive' at tho port of Moturoa by 11 o'clock the same morning — a thtog-' tliat wijl be absolutely impossible g6i[hg f ti6 Auckland. So it behoves all farrftof's to turn up on Ihe 28th and hear th } c views of the gentleman .who has spent so much valuable time and energy in bringing the proposals of the New Plymouth Harbour Board to a successful issue. Our interests in this matter are identical with New Plymouth's, and the question of New Plymouth getting an undue advantage over the country h\' such a large expenditure in improving the harbour is entirely cut away by! the differential rating clause in the Bill.
Mr and Mrs A. Coxhoad have just returned from a trip round the world. They say they have- enjoyed Lheiusolvcs well on their travels.
