WHANGAMOMONA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Sept. 23.— The Whanga County Council passed a resolution at to-day's meeting calling tenders for metalling with burnt papa 'about two miles on the Mangaere Road and several other smaller contracts.

A meeting of suppliers met the proprietors of the cheese factory and decided on the price of butter for the coming season, which was satisfactory to the suppliers. The new Dairy Bill was discussed and condemned. If such a drastic Bill was to become law and be administered by an incompetent and narrow-minded inspector, it would simply stop all the back-country settlers from dairying. It is quite right and proper that the authorities should insist on getting good clean milk to ensure a good uniform article, but if the proposed Bill passes into law it will be an impossibility to enforce it in country like ours, where there is no stone or concrete.

Great trouble and disappointment in the township to-night. The Roads Department in New Plymouth for some unknown reason, did not send the monthly pay along by to-day's mail to pay the co-operative men; no exSlanation or beg .pardons; it simply id not come. Everyone is growling .and if the' general elections took place to-morrow the Government would have no chance, as the report got about very quickly that Sir Joseph Ward is short of cash.

We are pleased to sqe £40,000 on the Estimates for our railway, but fully expected £50,000. However, if the engineer moves a little faster he may spend the vote before the end of the financial year. General satisfaction is expressed at the New Plymouth Harbour Bill being passed by both Houses. Wo are looking forward with pleasure to tho time when there will be no rate and a deepsea harbour at Moturoa and the railway at Whangamomona. The cows are coming in in good order. In fact, all stock are looking exceptionally well, and gonerally there is a large percentage of lambs.
