BABY IN A COAL BOX.

WANGANUI, Au-ust 17. At about 6 o'clock this evening an infant, apparently about three, months' old, was found in a coal box at the roar of an unoccupied house in Campbell Street. A man working in his garden hoard cries about 3 o'clock, but did not take any notice, thinking it was a neighbour's child. As tho cries continued, however, he marie investigation.*!, with the result, that ho found the child and took it to his wife, who is acting the [£ood Samaritan. The child is dressed in a long white gown, and well wrapped in flannels and a white &hawl. It is healthy looking, and well nourished. Tho how-o where the child was found is near St. John's railway station, mid the police think the infant may havo been deposited by someone who came by (rain.
