ENTERTAINMENTS.

"THE PRINCESS.'

St Mary's Hall "as filled to overflowing last night, when a number of o-irl pupils tVom the Now Pl,\nioutli sigh School produced a sta^p adaptation of Tennyson's "Ihe Princes*. Considering the youth fulness ot the performers, and tho iaet that they wore not familiar with histntnics, tho performance was an excellent one, and reflected great credit on Mi.ss Cj.rant, who trained the girls. Their modulation and enunciation were very good. A little more dramatic force and a little more use of gesture would have improved the performance, but these wifl come with experience. Ihe adaptation of the poet's great work uas a very ""ood one, and well constructed. The cast was as follows:— The Princess, I. Foote; Lady Blanche, \ Billing; T,adv Psyche M. Bullard; Melissa, M. Ambury Violet, h Stoddart ; The Prince, Kl. Kirton : Cyril and jilorian (friends of the Prince), G. bkunicr and A. Clemance; King of the Northern Empire (Father of the Prince) K. Vickers; King Gama (Ida's father) Z. Bayly; Araq, A. Cileeson; Twin Brothers (Gama's tH>ns), E. feponcor and 15 Gilbert. The overture was played by Miss Bewley, tJie cntr'acts by Miss Dou«las and the Misses Bakrr, and tho incidental nnibic by v the Misses and MiBaker. Mr Funton acted as stage mauTiger. . The dressing and mounting were very <rood The performance was slightly handicapped by the smallness of the stage and the lack of scenery, but these defects were but little noticeable, in future performances, however, it would be well to have much shorter intervals between tho acts and scenes.
