SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The monthly meeting of ihe Taranaki School Commissioners was held at the office of the secretary (Mr F. P. Corkill) yesterday. Present : Mossib J. "Wade (chairman), F. Simpson, and H. Faull. The secretary reportted that the Official Assignee' of J. A. Can's /'state had paid rent due and iiled his disclaimer of the lease; also that '.he purchaser of the adjacent freehold had complained of the growth of blackberry) on the reserves. White, builder, Patea, furnished a report on the condition of a cottage at Patea lately occupied by Rossiter and gave estimates for its renovation and also the fencing of the section — £4t 10s and £11 5s respectively. The Board decided not to spend any money on the property and to invite "tenders for a perpetually renewable lease of the sections. A letter was received from Win. Sharrock with respect to his leasehold in tho- Borough .of Stratford. After discussion it was resolved on the motion of Messrs Faull and Simpson : ''That, recognising that the rent payable by W. Sharrock is high and that he has done good work on 'the land, the Board renews its offer to make an abatement of one third of the amount due, provided payment of tke balance is made' by September 30th." It was decided to defer consideration of a change of tenure until next meeting. Tho Board's solicitors reported a number of awards made by arbitrators in connection^ with the renewal of leases. Consideration was deferred until next meeting. The Board's Ranger reported on the pieco of land (l6j acres) adjoining Mrs Jolls leasehold, and D. Sole on his inspection 1 of properties in the Borough of Ne-w Plymouth. The treasurer reported a balance of £996 lls 14.
