RATEPAYERS' INTERESTS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l think, before the resolution carried at -last night's meeting of suburban ratepayers is carried into effect, that it would be only fair that a poll of the whole of the ratepayers concorned shotdd be- taken. < The two issues at the meeting should be placed before them in a clear way, viz., as to whether they favour -the formation. of a new county -or the formation of , a greater Newi Plymouth., Inx matters ol far lees importance, to my mind, sucl as th^ raistifg of a loan, a poll of the ratepayers is bound to be taken, and their decision is final, ho* difficult it^is to get people /from thteii homes of a dark night' tos attend whal is usually a dry ratepayers' meeting and should they be. penaiised.Nfor theii absence? Had half of the ratepayer) concerned been present at last night') meeting the* Council. Chamber woul< not have held them, so I think ft woulc be Unfair for anyone to argue-thai they, should all have rolled up anc recorded their ' vote at - the meeting Out of some 120 ratepayers on., tfy roll of the Elliot Road Board^'fpr-4n: stanoe, only about tfen w€re pfeseni last night j yet they are. more or lesi vitally concerned in the mattery Foi my.^a.rt I wquld be;willing tojabide,^ the decisioft of'a baDotV'wnidtteyer' waj ,it went, and that » more <3ian I cat say of tne decision of last night's ineefe ing. —I am, etc., ,\ ' - JNO. HORNE.
