WAKE UP, TARANAK!
. (To the Editor.) Sir, — Will you kindly allow me space in your columns to ask Mr Tisch, in the event of his being elected to the Mayoral chair, if he would be in favour of forming a society to be called the Taranaki Progressive Society, having for .ts object the advancing of the province generally, such as completing the harbour, bringing before the outside world the beauty and advantages of the province, the various kinds of sport and other .attractions, and its tow death rate, etc. ? I feel sure quite a thousand members could be obtained to form such a society. The cost of property, exports, cost of living, etc., could also be included in an illustrated pan)phlet, printed and illustrated in firgt-class style, and distributed by thousands in the Old Country and America. Such pamphlet .would, of course, have to be written by experts. A prominent solicitor informs me that he would have no difficulty in inducing several English people with adequate means to settle in Taranaki if he was in a position tp show them the natural advantages of the district. I have always heard Mr Tisch spoken of as a progressive man, and having travelled extensively ho should know that what I suggest would be for the good of the district. I would ask Mr Tisch, in conclusion, if he has seen any place eo,ual to Taranaki as a places of residence? — 1 am, etc., R. C. CHURCH.
