NEW PLYMOUTH FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Friendly Society was held this afternoon at the Town Hall. Bro. N. Golding occupied the chair. There were about fifty members present. The statement of accounts showed receipts amounting to £323 14s 6d. including £63 10s 6d brought forward from the previous year. The expenditure amounted to £294 3s, leaving a credit balance of £29 11s 6d to carry forward. Tho President, in presenting his annual Teport, w said h*. was pleased to state the society was not in any way going t& the leeward. The sick pay had exceeded £100, and they had unfortunately lost by death two of their younger members during the year — Bros. Street and James. These amounts had been provided for partly out of capital and partly out of revenue. The total cash worth of the society stood at £2194 — equal to £29 16s 2d per member, and being an increase of 18s 8d per member on the amount of last year. This was very satisfactory. He extended his sympathy to the families of the two brothers who had been called from their midst. A notice of motion was proposed by Bro. R. Pepperell as follows : "That the question of joining in with an arrangement in force with other Societies ro members being exempt from fees ior hospital treatment and fees for consultations and operations be reconsidered by the Society." After lengthy, argument for and against the proposal, the following amendment was proposed: ''That the Society adopt a fund of its own to provide fees for members their wives or families in hospital and also to provide for consultations and operations such levy not to exceed 2s per member per quarter." On a vote being taken both the motion and the amendment wore negatived. The election of officers resulted as follows :— President, Bro. G. Cock; treHsurer, Bro. J. Kyngdon, board of management, Bros. French, C. Greenaway, J. L. Ibbotson, A. Marsh, J. Northcote, T. Sole, sen., and R. Peppenll; auditor, Mr F. H. Jackson. A vote of thanks to Dr. Walker and his deputy for their' services during the year was carried unanimously. Tho secretary was instructed to write Dr. Walker expressing tho Society's condolence with him in his bereavement. Votes* of thanks woro accorded the outgoing officers and a special resolution of thanks was accorded Bro. N. Goßling for his many years' sorvico as president of the Society.
