The Hon. T. Wv Hislop presßed, and he and Mr Hv p. Bell, KiG., spoke of the ability shown by Mr Ashcroft in carrying' but the duties of his position, during a grpat. many, years. In reply, Mr. Ashcroft remarked' that he had had 24 years of official life, incliiding nine in 'Dunedin.
