, THE GOVERNMEN^'^ J^OLXCt. * Per Press.jAssociation. ASHEfURTON, April 8. •In an interview ,hjare, -the -Minister for Lands, HqhV R. McNalv'said there was a great demand for the 33 years' renewable lease, and he was confident the increase of the graduated land tax encouraged sub-division, owners recognising that sub-division of,' their, properties was l a tiling that could <not be indefinitely delayed. It was only the phenomenal profit received from, stockraising of lateyears that enabled them to hold on. He believed that for the next few years the i land market would be easier; and allow^ thofiayernment to buy for ■ cash and sett -on ; easier terms. Concludingv v he said.'^"Settlement of the land along the lines upon which we are going appears to be the best method which Ms been suggested for the distribution of wealth among the people, so that we contend that our policy in regard to the distribution of weaHth is wrapped-up.in o,ur land policy, and any solution of ,one, is equally the solution of the Other. That is. Bowing., of the country along our lines' moans the advancement of industry in the towns." .'
