A PUBLIC WEIGHBRIDGE.
The Chairman introduced the qucs-! tion whether' a public weighbridge should be provided in New Plymouth. He' said lie had noticed serious shortages in the weight of goods shipped from south— a thing quite in Auckland . where everything passed over a weighbridge. - It was statea that, the Borough' Council hud a weighbridge, bxtt that jts use had/ been discontinued. Tiie Railway Department's provision .for weighing goods for. a charge of 6fl per ton was mentioned. The gejaeral Q^iuioii appeared ''to be that it would be che&per to pay the. Railway Oepartraent than to cart goods to a weighbridge* v Mr Roy pointed to the need of a! weislrbrid^e in private trade. .For instance, householder receiving a load of coal should, he considered, receive, a weighbridge certificate. He moved that the Borpu&h . Council should be ask«d to provide a weighbridge for pubhc usdv " Mr Ahier seconded. v
Messrs Frasor and King opposed' the proposal on the ground that the ampunb of use the weighbridge would liave would not, justify the cost. ' ' The motion wa» defeated. '>'
