ROWING.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB.
The inaugural meeting of the New Plymouth Boating and Rowing Club was held in tho Town Hall last evening. Sixteen men were present. Mr. H. Bishop presided. The Chairman said he had the names of forty men willing to become members. The New Plymouth beach was a splendid one for holiday-making. He spoke hopefully of the future of the place as a resort for boating people from all parts of Taranaki. H e thought that on Thursdays sailing races could be held in the shelter of tho breakwater. As for rowing, he had learned that the Clifton Rowing Club was willing to lend a boat to any New Plymouth Club crew that might wish to compete at the Taranaki Regatta at Waitara. He understood several members wex'e willing to enter. They would use a whaleboat at tho harbour for training. There was nothing to prevent the club arranging a carnival for the end of March. The following officers were elected : Patron, Mr. George Grey; president, Mr. H. Bishop ; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. T. Jennings M.P., H. Okey M.P., Captain Hood, Messrs. E. Dockrill, H. J. Julian, J. Smith, and T. Knowlos; committee, Messrs. C. Parker, T. Smith, F. Aroa, W. Ambury, A. Lovegrove, F. Carrington; secrotary, Mr. T. M. English; treasurer, Mr. C. O. Berg. The ' election of captain' and vicecaptain was left to the committee. The Chairman announced that tho membership,* including those enrolled at the inceting, numbered 34.
