Mr. Asqnith's old-age pensions proposal. He feared that tho intention was to' cast a portion of the burden uponthe local rafcQs_ This would mean the retention of tho stigma attaching to the poor-law relief. Tho Liberals explain that a part of tlio cost should be' derived from rates in return for tho relief which pensions afford. . . , , , [Mr. Asquith s>id that,. so far as the pension fund was derived from taxation, all classes, including workers, shoidd make a just and adequate contribution.]
