Christmas Day being wet, perhaps added to the enjoyment of many farmers. This is a busy time, and to sit idle on a fine day goes against the grain, so that the ram, which may have marred the pleasure of some, was a blessing to others. ■ The new Manganm bridge, which is now completed, was unofficially opened to the public late on Christmas E,ve. Mr O K. Larrikin, assisted by a sitiall but energetic party, performed the ceremony. Details' are not to hand but ar eye-witfteJs describes it as bang,,* not exactly impressive at any jate Q£ cidedly moving. Early on Boxing Day Mr M. Jones, the county foreman, officially and securely 'closed it agam, and further action on the part of Messrs. LKriSdn and Co. would be extremely ill-advised. :
