In the Legislative Assembly there was a lengthy debate on Mr. McGowan's proposal that the Lithgow Ironworks should bo nationalised. This motion was defeated and the Government's proposal to advance £70,000 to the works to assist to develop the industry was carried. A proviso was included that the Government should have a prior claim over the firm's funds in bank to the extent of the whole of the advance.
