An influential group of financiers, after discussing tbe financial crisis at the Academy of Political Science, Philadelphia, advocated the establishment of a central Government bank, which should handle Government finances and possess the sole right to issue bank notes. Out of twenty-five milliou pounds sterling of gold imported to New York since the outset of the crisis, twentythreo and a-half millions are from Britain.
