German semi-official newspapers insinuate that France provoked the fight with the»Benihaisens in order to extend their sphere of action. The insinuations are warmly resented in France. ' The Temps describes the papers' remarks as unwarrantable interference. France's treaty rights, the paper says, give it power to police tho frontier in conjunction with the Sultan.
