PERSONAL.

Mr J. J. Cummins, who was first in the trombone solo competition at the Ashburton Band Contest the other day, is well known in various parts of Taranaki, particularly at Opunake. 3VIr Cummins has long been recognised as a musician of talent. Miss Nellie Stewart has been forced by illness to relinquish her New York engagement. She will shortly return to Australia. A letter received in Christchurch from. London states that the Hon. W. Hall-Jones, after arrival in England, was s%eadily improving and was a very different person from the poor wreck who was helped on board the steamer at Lyttelton. Mr Newton King has so far recovered from the influenza as to be able to come into town to-day.
