SHIPBUILDING DISPUTE.
A LOCKOUT AVERTED.
United Press Association. — By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. LONDON, August 25. The caulkers have been ordered to resume work on. Monday. In consequence^, the Employers' Federation has withdrawn the lockout notices relating to the boilermakers employed in the shipbuilding yards. ' Negotiations are progressing with boilermakers for a permanent agreement to prevent sudden and extreme measures being taken by either side. (A cable received last week stated : — The Shipbuilding Employers' Federation gave a week's notice of dismissal to 50,000 members of the Boilermakers' Society employed in the shipbuilding yards of the Tyne> the (Clyde, Wear, Barrow, and- Belfast,- in consequence of the Boilermakers' Society refusing to instruct caulkers employed in Armstrong's yard at Newcastle to return to work. after opening a strike without notice. The action of the Employers' Federation created surprise ;and consternation among the men.)
