A FATAL FALSE ALARM.

United Press Association. — By Electrio Telegraph. — Copyright. (Received August 13, 10.8 a.m.) MELBOURNE, August 13. While proceeding to answer a false alarm, a fire engine dashed into a telegraph pole. One horse was literally torn asunder. The engine was wrecked. Four firemen were severely injured and two slightly hurt.

Per PreM Association. AUCKLAND, August 12. A motor car, which Mr Dexter, of the firm of Dexter and Crozier, was driving, collided with a tram while proceeding to Newmarket last evening. The body of the motor was almost completely smashed, although the engines were not seriously damaged. Mr Dexter and the boy who accompanied him miraculously esoaped unhurt. WELLINGTON, August 13. The body of a man was found in the harbour this morning. It is believed to have been in the water five or six weeks. The features are almost unrecognisable.
