At the invitation of Mir B: Griffiths, senior partner of the-firmjofE. Griffiths and Co., between forty ami fifty gentlemen lunched in the new Dimdings today to celebrate the occasion: *xrf- the firm's entering into occupation. The gathering, which was presided over by Mr Dockrill (Mayor of tfew Plymouth), was thoroughly/ 1 . ilSpresentative of the professional an^t commercial interests o£. the town. The guests, before sitting" dowri, inspected J *the Building, which have- been described in our columns, and very favourable opinions were expressed on all hands as to their completeness and convenience. .; - An exceedingly nice luncheon was served by Mr C. Clarke,, of the White Hart Hotel, and after due attention had been paid to this a very short toast list was disposed. The Chairman proposed the toast of "The King," followed by that of "Success to the Firm- of Ei;', Griffiths .andCo." In speaking to it Mr Dockrill said the building they were assembled in was a credit to the firm and one of the most sightly in town. It spoke well for the confidence the firm^had in the town and district that ihey should have erected such premises. He spoke of the" experience Mr Griffiths had gained and of th,e gpqd. name, he. had achieved in commercial circles. He also complimented the architect (Mr Frank Messenger) and contractor (Mr J. T. Mannix) upon the building, concluded, by wishing the firm .eviSry success in their enterprise. < '-' • o . ' ■ i .' The toast .haying- been drunk with musical honours? He said that during the.sixv-years he had been in business iij'New Plymouth he had re* ceived many kindnesses at the hands of the people/ He had the. greatest confidence in the future of the town and district, &... confidence which was strengthened by a comparison of the state of thifags ten years ago and now. In the next' ten years he hoped to see even greater growth. He had to thank the architect and contractor for the fine building they were assembled in, and he had also to thank his staff, especially Mr Kaye and Mr Fagan, whom he described as "the^pHampibn land salesmen of Taran v aJ^'",,for the assistance they had given him in building up his business. He also toot-the occasion to announce that Mr Dick Cornwall would join his staff, in the land department, on September Ist. In conclusion v he reciprocate^ the kind feelings displayed towards himself by drinking to the success of all present. He only regretted that on account of the limited room he had not been able to invite ten times the number. A very pleasant little gathering then dispersed.
