LECTURE TO FARMERS
CAPTAIN YOUNG AT WAREA.
The Taranaki Agricultural Society held its first winter lecture to farmers last night at Warea. Mr. James Burgess was in the chair, and about forty settlers were present. After a short address the Chairman introduced Messrs. N.'sKing, Ambury,,and Kerr, who said a few words in reference to the good work the Society was doing in the direction of helping the man. on the land. Captain Young (Government Veterinarian) then addressed the - meeting. There were several useful diagrams on the walls, and the lecturer referred to these frequently. The subjects he chiefly touched on were such as are of great interest to farmers at this time of the yeai^— the calving of cows, diseases, of the udder, etc. At the conclusion of the address Coptain Young told the audience that if they cared to arrange for a practical demonstration in veterinary work he would be only too pleased to hear from them to, that effect, and to visit Warea for the- 1 purpose, of giving a demonstration.' He said that, should j he arrange to give a demonstration, he would like the settlers to kill a beast twenty-four hours prior to the occasion, when he would kill another and bleed it, and then he would be able to give a practical demonstration that should be of great service to the farmers. At the conclusion of the lecture ahearty vote of thanks was accorded Captain Young for his address. After the lecture the Society enrolled half-a-dozen new members, principally prominent settlers in the Warea district.
The Society intends holding three other lectures on similar lines. Particulars will appear in <lue course in the advertisement columns of the Herald.
