Clemenceau's measures to enforce the law in the south. The , Government are confident of being able* to effect conciliation. v Meanwhile the Winegrowers' Confer-, ence.at Argdiers .demanded reduction of taxes, and resolved to continue the municipal strike, and non-payment of present taxes, even if the Government sent bayonets. . The attitude of the winegrowers was intended to influence the Senate, which nevertheless passed the Chamber of Deputies Bill.
