ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

CHRISTCHURCH, June 27.
An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of a man named Turner, who strayed into the Christchurch Tramway Board's yard one night three weeks ago. He went to sleep against a steam exhaust pipe, -. and was badly scalded when the steam, was turned on in the morning. Evidence was given that death was due to blood poisoning resulting from the scalds, and a verdict was given accordingly.
■ The bofly of a fireman .named Duncan McCrae was found floating in Lyttelton harbour. McCrae, who worked- on the Harbour Board's tug, was supposed to be on duty keeping steam up, and he left home shortly afterlight o'clock to go to the' vessel. So far as can be ascertained he was not seen afterwards, and it was surmised that he fell into the water when going aboard and was washed under the wharf. He was a married man, and had lived in the port for twenty years, having been in the. colony for nearly , forty-eight years. It ' is a coincidence that McCrae was filling the positjonrOtt the tugof! a fireman who was drowned under similar circumstances about twelve months ago. AUCKLAND, June 27. The body of a man named % Au/anafr- . Charles Pelley, 55 years old, w^as found in the harbour this morning. On Wednesday night Pelley called on a doctor, but after waiting in the consulting room for a few minutes, went out and was jftqi seen again. When, found, the' body wfts, fully clothed* even to"^he.ot*coat. In the pockets were found three stones and a table knife. Pelley -had been suffering from insomnia for months. ,
