MR. JULIUS KNIGHT.

I Unquestionably one of the most important dramatic events to New Plymouth theatre-goers is the announcement of 'the re-appearance here at the Theatre Royal on Saturday next of Mr Julius Knight supported by Mr J. C. Williamson's new English Dramatic Company, who have been specially selected in England and America by Mr Julius Knight for this tour of Australasia. The company and the play to be staged here have received the most enthusiastic receptions everywhere, and the .press .and public are unanimous in their plaudits of one and all. "Brigadier Gerard," which will be presented, is by the well known author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The character of Capt. Gerard, played by Mr Julius Knight, is a many sided one, and the role can only be properly filled by an actor of versatile talents. These Mr Knight possesses to a pre-eminent degree, so he gives a fine representation of the young soldier with a grain of folly in his bravery, full of impetuosity, quick in quarrel, his hand ever ready to draw his sword in his own honour or that of his Emperor, and his partiality for a glass of chianti, and for lovely women. The part is skilfully drawn and cleverly acted. The play is well mounted, and the dresses are good, a touch of realism being gained by dusty and travelstained uniforms when the situation renders it necessary. The box plan will be opened on Wednesday morning next at tile Colonial Piano Coy.
