THE CAUSE OF THE TIMES' REMARKS.

The Times, in its article^ is alluding to a speech made*' by Mr Watson (late Federal Premier) during a recent-t©»r-of the Northern Territory, where ho de^ /dared there could be no doubt as to the importance to the people of Australia of having the Northern Territorypeopled, and peopled as densely as possible, with a population which could be relied npon in times of emergency. He considered the grayest danger threat- /- ening Australia at this time was the loaving open of this door to people who, although they were friondly to-day, might in the whirligig of time become anything but friendly.
