WASTARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A very pleasing ceremony took place at the Masonic -Hotel, when the members^ of the Clifton Football Club presonted Mr H. D. Matthews, who had been an active .member of the club for a number of years, with a silver tray. Mr 'Buchanan, in making the presentation, spoke of the assistances-Mr Matthews had rendered to the club, and wished him, on hehalf of the club, long life and happiness. Mr -Matthews ap-. predated the gift, and heartily thanked the club members for their kindness. The niembers of the Waitara Rowing Club waited on Miss Black and presented' her with a silvor rose bowl in recognition of the valuable services she had rondered the club. The Waitara Rifles also made Miss Black a presentation of a set of fruit Jmrves. The St. John Church was packed on Thursday last to witness the marriage of Mr H. D. Matthews to Miss Eva Black. The ceremony was performed by 'the Rev. G. W. Dent. Mr T. Langman, of Huirangi, met with a slight accident which might have been of a niore serious nature. He was loading, chaff at Mr Joe George's stables, , and when tightening the load with a 7a 7 rope the latter broke, and he fell under the heels' of a horse in one of the stalls. The horse kicked out and struck Mr Langman on the side of the head, but fortunately he fell close up to the animal's heels and did not meet the full force of the kick. The Rev. G. W. Dent leaves "Waitara for Eltham on June 10th. Tho electric light is to be completed by the next meeting of the Council. There is every probability of the Council taking over the plant, providing the ratepayers are agreeable. A rate would have to be struck, which would only aifect those using the light.
