PETROLEUM.

The machinery on the property of tho Taranaki Oil and Freehold Company, Carrington Road, is in position, and the shedding is now practically finished. The materials for the erection of necessary shedding and the machinery is being conveyed on to the property acquired for boring purposes by the Auckland (Hadley) Company, but there has not yet been any actual commencement with the erection of the buildings. The bore on the Bonithon property had reached a depth of 35 feet on Tuesday afternoon as a result of about two and a-half days' work. The country passed through so far is a very hard conglomerate. At the Moturoa works there is nothing fresh to report. Everything is working smoothly, and confidence is growing.
