WAGGONETTE ACCIDENT.

BRAKE GOES OVER AN EMBANK MENT.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 25.

Two of Cassidy's waggonettes left Bealey from the West Coast on Saturr day afternoon, both, carrying passengers.

! When nearing the end of the Waimakariri cutting, something went wrong with one of. the brakes of a waggonette at a spot where there is a steep down grade, and the waggonette soon came in contact with the coach in front.

The occupants jumped out of the Vehicles quickly, and fortunately none were hurt.

The driver maintained his seat until the last moment consistent with safety ; then leap out, the waggonette going over the bank, which runs down 200 feet to the Waimakariri River.

One horse was drowned and the vehicle badly broken.

After the lnggage had been saved the passengers were- divided amongst other vehicles and brought safely to Christchurch.
