Deceased, who' was deaf, apparently did not hear , the train approaching. He was a miner, and an old resident of the district. '- - GORE, March 24. A young man named Arthur S. Humphries met with a fatal accident at Mataura this morning. The horses in & drag which was journeying with^a party to Fortrose halted when crossing ,the Mataura suspension bridge, ana the drag colliding with the kerbing on the footpath, Humphries was thrown put, and landed heavily on the path, 'Sustaining critical. injuries ftom which he died 1 20 -minutes later. He was 25 years of age. An old miner named David McDonald, at Twelve Mile, near Queenstown, has been missing for som.e days, and it h feared a hast' befallen him. WELLINGTON, March 25. A young man named James Austin, son of a Petone dairyman, was killed at Mungaroa Bridge, Upper ,Hutt. Deceased was cycling, when he evidently lost control of his machine and dashed into a side bridge, fracturing his skull and dying almpst immediately.
