PARKER'S VICTORIOUS CAREER.

Parker continued his victorious career in the , New South Wales championship matches to-day, lie met Dr. Pockloy, to whom he succumbed last year, defeated him, 6—2,6 — 2, 0-^-3, 6^-2. The, iinal for the Now Plymouth OlubV men singles championship between J.-O. Nicholsbn^last year's holder) and E. Griffiths was decided on Thursday afternoon, and resulted in Nicholson retaining the. title by three sots to one. It was certainly a. Jight between two players of the first order. In the first set Griffiths gave a very fine display, staking .difficult balls and placing splendidly, arid ran out a winner 6—3.6 — 3. Nicholson had, apparently, not settled ddiwn t6>hfs game,: and Griffiths had two games in in the second set before Nicholson made a forward move. Tho latter then gradually drew np and led Griffiths at the ninth game, 5—4, also taking the next game and the set, 6-^-4. Nicholson was now picking lip his* Usual steadiiiessTand carried off the third set, 6—2.6 — 2. In the next, and what proved to be the final, set, play was of a particularly even nature, : Griffiths making a big bid to bring the score two gets all. The games : in this set reached three nil. then five all, when Nicholson took the sixth game -and'^wbn the set and- annexed the championship (amid applause) for the fifth successive year.
