The appointment of Mr L. R. Wilsoh as vice-consul for Norway at Dnnedin has bee^n officially recognised.. Mr J. H. Adams. has ,been appointed assistant-gQo]ogists to the Mines^Bepartment, , . Among our tel'e^rat)hic news a day or two ago it was 'recorded that .Mr D . A. Wright had been found shot dead at Raupo (Northern Wairoa). /'An Old Comrarfe v> of the deceased writes to the New Zealand Herald as follow^:— Mr Wright was one of a family of Taranaki settlers, dating , back (to. my knowledge) prior to 1565. One of his brothers was killed by the Maoris in the war of 1868. Two other brothers reside at Wanganui. Mr D. A. Wright served with the Taranaki Volunteers durmg the, war of 1864-66, and again in the Armed Constabulary in 1868. A better man in the field, or as a genial companion, it would be hard to. find. His old comrades will bo inexpressibly sorry to hpar 4 of his sad end. He was universally liked and highly respected by all who had the" ' Pleasure df his acquaintance. As a Civil servant of the New Zealand .Government,^ as well^as during his military career, he was < 'Sans pour et srfmS ,^P?oche.
