THE STATE ELECTIONS.

MELBOURNE, March 16. The State elections were the quietest in the history of the State, and a triumph for the sitting members., The parties on present figures are practically as they were. Labour lost Geelong, Ballarat West, and the Jikajika seats, but gained Bendigo East and Eagle Hawk. Mr Prendergast was returned for North Melbourne. One of the incidents of the election was the defeat of Mr W. H. Judkins (Editor of the Review of Roviews), for Brunswick, Mr Anstey (Labour), winning by a majority of over 700. Approximate figures show the positions as follows : — Ministerial 51. Labour or Opposition 14.
