PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

At a meeting of the J3oard on Wednesday, 13th March, there were present Messrs Young, Wilcox, O'Rorke, Revell, and Deegan. In the absence of Mr Rothery, Mr ,Jas. Young took the chair. Mr Young- stated that the settlers on the Ihaia Road wish the matter of the special rate tjo be held over for one month. " The Clerk was instructed to write to the Noxious Weeds Inspector calling attention to the gorse and blackberry on the Rahotu and Lower Kahui Roads. It was resolved to spend "£7 on To Poka Road as recommended. The overseer was empowered to spend up to £19 on Parihaka Road. Mr Wilicox moved, and Mr Deegan seconded, that the work recommended to be done by the foreman on Cape Road be carried out. Mr. Young moved an amendment that nothing be done on this road, as it is already greatly in debt. There was' no seconder for the amendment, and the ' original motidn was carried. > ... i . It was resolved to make a side track on the Stent Road. It was resolved to do some necessary work on the Ruakere Road.

The foreman reported on a culvertrear Mr RumbalTs on the Warea Road, and' advised that the outlet and drain be cleaned but. He also reported having inspected drains by Mr Corkill's property, and' considered the Board's diams are not doing any harm. The. foreman recommended having seme patching done and ' water-tables cleaned out on the Warea Road.. This road is very heavily in debt, as during the past three years far more has been spent on it than has been received in rates. The Board have already authorised a new culvert, and it was considered that the settlers should go in for a special rate to put the road in repair. The clerk was instructed to write to the Land Board asking whether Messrs Ducker Bros, are liable for any royalty or timber from the Newall Road. It was resolved that two orders on the Board be not recognised. Mr J. Guy waited on the Board and requested it to lower a culvert opposite his property at present interferes with the natural watercourse. As Mr Giiy i\nd Mr Wright are each willing to pay one-third of the cost, the Board decided to have the work done.

It was resolved that 10 chains of drain be. made on the Arawhata Road at a cost of £1 per chain, as recommended.

Opourapa Road. — Mr W. Duggan waited on the Board re raising a further loan for the purpose of extending the metal beyond the present contracts let. Mr Duggan was instructed to obtain the signatures of the ratepayers interested. It Was resolved to lower the road at tbe end of the present formation at a cost not to exceed £2 10s. The clerk was authorised to procure rubber stamps and deal with the matter of obtaining a cupboard. Mr Priske wrote requesting that 10 chains of installing be done on the Paora Road. As this road is well in credit, it was resolved to accede to his request. It was resolved that it be left in the foreman's liana's to deal with a request from Mr Tosland for work on the Arawbata Road.. Mr Tosland offered to do the work at about half its value. The foreman was, instructed to report at the next meeting on the advisability of forming a side track on the Upper Kina Road, and also to inspect a culvert opposite Mr Willcox's property on the Lower Kahui Road. On a notice of motion by Mr Willcox it was resolved that the additional 10 per cent, on the Puniho Road loan be applied for. . j The foreman was authorised to employ an extra man during the time that Mr De Castro is spreading on the Opourapa Road contracts.

Mr E. H. Trask, local manager for Messrs George and Stokes, severs his connection with the firm at the end of this week. Mr Trask has been in charge of the branch since its establishment here.

Under the auspices of the New Plymouth Swimming Club a fancy swimming gala is to be held at the Municipal Baths on the 20th inst. Many novelties are to be provided, including the Monte Christo set by Mr Lints, who will got out. of a bag with his hands tied behind him. 'There will also be a relay race and polo match, and many amusing" items. The committee are determined to give a good show, and also to provide plenty fun in as much as they advertise that "those who don't laugh get their money back."
