STRATFORD.
(From Our Resident Agent.)
March 14. — The County Council held «. special meeting yesterday to consider what course to take in view of the Hon. the Acting-Premier's expressed intention to saddle the Council with the cost of maintaining the Ohqra Road, metalled and unmetalled portions. [A full report appeared on Thursday.] {, , ' The races have been very successful, the rain keeping off on both days, although an indh and a-half fell during last- night. The evenings' diversions consisted of a Wild West Show on Tuesday and a boxing match last night. The Wild West was most realistic, especially when the lively bull that was playing a conspicuous part in the entertainment overpowered the lassoers and charged the lighting apparatus, suddenly plunging the whole show in pitch darkness. The bull, with ropes bailing and aroused to frenzy, reached Broadway and caused immense fun. NT) one seems to have been hurt, which is a bit remarkable.
