MISSIONARY MEETING.
On Monday evening Mr J. Watkinson, treasurer of the Missionary Society, presided at the annual missionary meeting. In his remarks he said it had been a source of great pleasure to him to hear of the successful work accomplished at the various mission stations throughout the past year. He was particularly delighted with the efforts put forth by the young people on behalf of the mission. The Rev. P. G. Hunt, who has had considerable experience in Home Mission work, having been the first P.M. missionary on the Waihi goldfields, safd he knew something of the difficulties of such work, but he had proved that God helped all earnest workers. He pleaded fqr the sympathy and support of the various churches for the mission work out in the back districts. The Rev. W. Laycock was glad the missionary spirit was growing in the church, as was shown by the amount of last year's contributions, amounting to The Rev. A. Armstrong called for active individual service, and Mr Wilkinson saidev.ery Christian should have something v to do with mission work. Mission work commenced in the colony in 1314, and it was not until 1825 the first convert was gained. Still, the grand old pioneers; laboured until success did come.
