PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting was held on 'Wednesday, 9th January. Present : Messrs Rothery, Wilco.x, Sorrenson, «ndi Duggan. A special order was passed authorising ihe raising of a loan of £GOO in conjunction with the /Werekino Road Board for the Upper Puniho Road^ The ordinary meeting was held on tj^e same day. ' The Foreman reported that during the past four weeks the men had 'been engaged in doing formation and' drain cleaning and) patching and renewing culverts, etc., on the following roads: — Ihaia, Waiteika, Opua, Bayly, Stent and Paora. He recommended that on Upper Waiteika Road about 115 chains of formation should be done opposite Messrs Warner and Cox's sections. He also recommended that six chains of metalling be done just below Mrs Kirkwood'si on Kameora Road,, and the formation continued for about VO chains .on Bayly Road. A side track from the main road down übout 15 chains of the Pungarehu Road would be useful. Work has been done on the upper portion o$ the Opua Road, but from McNeal's down is in a very bad state and 100 yards of metal would help. (to keep the road open^or traffic. Te Paka Road, below Mrs Dew's, is in very bad order in the winter, and if there. *are any funds the Foreman recommends metalling between Messrs Wright's and Hopkins'. On the Ouparapa contract very little has been done* since last report. Tite contractors should get the work done in another three or four weeks, if they hurry. T)rains on the Ihaia are being cleaned' out in the worst places. Work required on the road includes forming and metalling about 20 chains near the Crown Dairy Factory, and forming and grading a portion of the road from Mr Wells' downward. The estimated . cost of the work is about £250. About 9 chains of formation is needed on the Kina Road from, tine main road downwards. Lower Kahui Road requires about 100 yards of stone carted out and broken. A side track down to the bridge would save the metal from a* lot. of wear. The Foreman stated that he had aotbeen able to let the stone breaking in Mr Cook's pit, but repairs were being done. He had ordered timber f»r the bridge on the, Waiteika Road and will start construction as soon as it is delivered. ; Work on the following iro a ds, as recommenced by tho Foreman were authorised :— Kaweora— Bayly, Pimgarehu and Lower Kina. , It- -tfas resolved to c a rt out) :. 50 yards of metal on Opua RbaH. A tender from A. D. Fielder for culvert pipe moulds was not accepted. ' A letter was received , from Mr Strong but n o action was taken. The^Foreman will report on the request of Mr T. Corkill for four chains o f drain opposite h«is section o» Kewall Roaid. Boulders (100 yds) will be got ready, and a side track will bo formed on Kahui Road, conditionally on the settlers carting out the boulders. ■Mr J.
