Sir,>— Surely you did not intend us to tak«> serifcusly your rcniarl'B regarding Mr Poland's appointment to the charge of the Old People's Home. Inter alia, - you say :— "Mr Poland has had considerable experience in similar positions, having' had charge oi! the Northern Club, Auckland,, and was also one of the household r staff which accompanied the -Duke and Duc^ beasf of York 'on their tour of -the colony." Where doos the similarity of positions come in ? I fail to sea it. The Northern Club is the most select in Auckland, and I do ;w; w not think that rt«? members, or the Dukeand Duche&s would -feel flattered by the comparison. How these "positions could fit Mr Poland f o r his, , future one, is past my comprehension, as I consider the ' duties would be very dissimilar. — I am, etc., NOT ONE OF THE FOURTEEN . ' APPLICANTS. New Plymonth; Dec. 13, l#o6.
