THE POSTAL APPOINTMENTS.

Mr F. D. Holesworth is to be congratulated on his appointment to the position of Chief Postmaster at Auckland. During his long stay in Mew Plymouth he has proved himself to be a most efficient chief, arid has , made many friends, whilst he was also popular amongst his assistants. Mr Hpldsworth joined the service in July, 1868, as cadet in Wellington, and after about a month in the gallery he was removed to Dunedin. Here he was engaged for three months, when he was promoted to the position of telegraphist, and sent to Oamaru. Mr Holdsworth served . there for a period of 12 years, when he was again moved, this time being transferred to New Plymouth as officer in charge of telegraphs. This was in 1880, and the same year the amalgamation of the departments took place, and he was appointed to theiposition of. Chief Postmaster, a position he has . retained up to the time of the recent, promotions^ and transfers} particulars of which were published in our issue of Saturday. The new appointed Postmaster for New Plymouth to succeed Mr Holdworth is Mr W. J. Chancy, formerly Assistant Inspector of Post-offices for.the Central District. Mr Chancy, prior to coming to the colony, was engaged in the English postal service, and has occupied the position of Postmaster at Hawera and Marton. It was from Marton he was promoted to the Assistant Inspectorship. He is a reliable , officer, and New* Plymouth is to be congratulated on getting such an efficient man to succeed Mr Holdsworth.
