DENBIGH ROAD.
( (From Our Own Correspondent.)
A social evening, under the auspices of the Social Club Committee, was held here last week, which was voted by some- of those present to be the most enjoyable of the season. It was the< wiride-up of the socials for the present. The evening turned out beautifully fine, and everything went .off well from start to finish. Dancing, recitations, etc., filled the programme, and good music was provided. The supper was all that could be desired. We have been experiencing very stormy weather the last few days — heavy wind and rains from the north. The creeks were so high this morning that it was with difficulty that the milk-carts crossed them. One driver came to grief ii^ the middle of one of the said creeks, and' had to secure the kindly assistance of a neighbour!: o assist him and his horse out of a* ather uncomfortable predicament. The rain ' was badly needed, for we had previously had a very dry spell. Influenza has been the order of day lately, almost every family being visited more or less by this unwelcome guest. . The sale of work held in Midhirst last week, in aid of the Church of England* proved a great success financially and otherwise, a good sum, being realised.
