"A WELL WISHER."
(To" the Editor.) Sir, — With your permission; I have a few words to say. : Competition is .the soul of all things. Give me the man to deal with that has been beaten— after a strong fightrriA, any walk of life before the fellow who never nailed " Excelsior " to • his mast-head. We cannot all come out on top, but it shows grit to try. *t am filled with' envy at t the great lesson the band will get. ,At the same time I think the bandsmen richly deserve the treat they will 'receive, and if dqrVt show ;us ' later on thai they have profited by the teaching they will get, I for one will be much ' astonished. As some members seem ruffled by " Wellwisher's" good intentions— for he only wants them to look pretty, and stick in ' tEg mvd — they need not take a sledge hammer to kill a sandfly.- Far better send- him a copy of " Carlyle's Sartor Resartus fi ap a] Christmas box, with the intimation that they J object Ja play the part of two-forked raddishes.— l am, &c, '
