The local rowing clubs are in active training-, and a number of crews are out every evening. % The Clifton Rowing Club have picked the following crews to compete for thei trophies iiresented by Mr A. Taylor, R. Adlatn, J. Mortensen, T. Brough, and H. Spur die. HARBOUR BOARD. % The monthly meeting of the Waitara Harbour Board was held on Monday evening. Present : Messr^ --G-; H. Stubbs (chairman), lindsay, Foreman, Chappell, Dugdale, and Jennings, M.H.R. Mr Roy wrote in referer.ee to the proposed deputation to interview the Minister' concerning the QoteDstiruction of the Waitara bridge, iand notified the Board that owing to the Hon. W. Hall- Jones being o*it of Wellington no fixed date had yet been arranged. Mr Jennings promised to endeavour to get the very best terms,. Mr Jennings moved that the necesj sary repairs, as suggested by the Disi trict Road .Engineer, be proceeded witii at once. — Caraied. It .was resolved that the Minister for Public Works be asfeied to permit Mr Murray to supervise I'he repairs to the ■briclcfc. fMr E. Mahoney, solicitor to the executors ot the late S. R. Fairweatiher, wrote asking for a reduction of rent, pointing out the difference between the rent of the Bridge Hotel site (£125 per annum) and the site on whioh 1/hs Waitara Hotel stands (£45). An extension of three months in which to pay was granted, but the Board, could not see its way to grant a reduction in the rent. Mr W. Clare wrote offering to hire to the Board all his plant for the sum of £1 15s per week, or 32s per day. The question of employing Mr Clare for the bridge work was left in the hands of the Works Contfmittee. - The Ohairman suggested procuring c ' new sale or a strong room. The mat ter was referred to the Works Committee. The" Mokau Coal Company was granted permission to erect a derrick at their coal bin. The question of Christmas and Nefw Year holidays was left to the Chairman. Accounts amounting to £63 18s were passed for payment. '
